Christina Petrou – Soprano

Soprano Christina Petrou, originally from Hertfordshire, now works as a freelance singer and singing teacher based in London after graduating with an Honours Degree in Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Recent roles include: Masha in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades (Grange Park Opera); Norina in Don Pasquale (Clapham Opera Festival); Maid in Llywelyn Ap Myrddin’s The Crocodile (Age of Anxiety for the Tête a Tête festival); Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi (Christine Collins Young Artists Programme at Opera Holland Park); Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (Pavilion Opera & Winterbourne Opera); Bubikopf in Ullman’s The Emperor of Atlantis (Dioneo Opera); Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto (Bury Court Opera); Sailor in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Bury Court Opera’s all female production) and Venus in Blow’s Venus and Adonis (Hampstead Garden Opera).
Other operatic roles include: Lauretta – Gianni Schicchi (Opera South East) and Gabriella (cover) in Puccini’s La Rondine (British Youth Opera). Christina has performed as chorus in: Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Bellini’s I Puritani (Grange Park Opera); Zandonai’s Francesca da Rimini and Verdi’s La Forza del Destino (Opera Holland Park); Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha (Pegasus opera); Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana (Barbican Hall and Cervia, Italy); Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress (Aldeburgh Festival and Opera Faber, Ponte de Lima Festival, Portugal) and Puccini’s La Rondine (British Youth Opera).
On the concert platform, she has performed as the soprano soloist for Haydn’s Nelson Mass (Harlow Chorus, Waltham Abbey) and for Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai and Beethoven’s Mass in C (Southend Bach Choir).
